Philippine Healing Methods used by Filipino Healers
1. Tawas
Using a candle and a water-filled basin, a tawas healer could diagnose and heal the patient. This type of healing however is limited to particular type of ailments. This is a type of esoteric & unconventional pediatrics. The natives believe that this is the safest and best method used for infants and children. Those who are not responding to conventional medicine are brought to Tawas Healers most particularly in cases when the cause of illness is beyond physical. Adults who get recurring fever are taken also to these type of healers as well as those who manifest exorcism in its early stages.
2. Hilot
This is a form of therapeutic massage or physical manipulation that touches the veins/arteries, bones and muscles, but very different from the common massage that we all know (Swedish, shiatsu, reflexology, acupressure). This type of healing is not limited to the traditional spiritual healers in Philippines. Even nuns and priests are now into this type of healing. They invoke the name of the Almighty to help cure the diseases that afflict the patients. It is believed that this form of healing is not studied and mastered. Healers of this kind are the gifted ones. They serve as the channel for healing energy to help an ill person.

With power of the mind, healing is manifested on the patient.
9. Psychic Surgery
The most controversial type of healing. This method is also performed in South America but it is only in the Philippines where it is practiced on a widescale. Some have appeared to be charlatan but many still are authentic psychic surgeons. A combination of gift and training is necessary for one to become a psychic surgeon. However, this is also the most dangerous because the healer also subjects himself to the risk of absorbing the illness of the patient. Sufficient training and practice is necessary to master this method. Be careful in choosing your healer.

The Catholic religion of the country is the prime contributory factor to this form of healing. The belief that Saints, Angels, Supreme Being,& nature spirits, sometimes even ghosts, possess the body of a mortal being to heal the sick.
